Ein riesiges, weißes Loft im Stadtteil Hell‘s Kitchen/Manhattan. Lady Gaga (25) kommt in schwarzer, durchsichtiger Spitze. Ihre Unterwäsche blitzt durch. Chanel-Handtasche, sehr hohe Louboutins.
Was bedeutet New York für diese Lady?
„New York ist die Metapher meines Lebens. Diese endlose Kreativität! New York hat so viele Gesichter! New York ist meine größte Inspiration!“
Hier wurde die Sängerin geboren, hier ging sie als Stefani Germanotta zur Schule, hier gab sie in kleinen Clubs Konzerte, als sie noch niemand kannte, hier wurde sie ein MEGA-STAR!
Wie war es, die Kindheit in New York zu verbringen? Fehlen nicht Wälder, Sicherheit …?
Die Lady lacht. Tief und rauchig. „Oh, wir haben Bäume in New York! Und nicht nur das. Wenn du nachts Heißhunger auf ein Sesam-Huhn bekommst, gehst du einfach um die Ecke zum nächsten China-Restaurant. Ich habe meine Kindheit hier geliebt! Das Beste war das U-Bahn-Fahren. Das gehört zu den Dingen, die ich heute am meisten vermisse.“
Während des Interviews trinkt Lady Gaga Tee. Ihre Tasse wurde extra mitgebracht. Schwarz-gold und von „Versace“. Abgehoben? Nein! Nur ein wenig exzentrisch.
Bodenständig hingegen ihre schönsten Erlebnisse in ihrer Heimatstadt: „Am Neujahrsmorgen um 6 Uhr mit meinen Freunden aus einer Kneipe kommen, die Sonne geht auf und wir gehen Rührei mit Ketchup essen. Das ist New York! Oder ein Stück Pizza aus der Plastiktüte. Das gibt es nirgendwo anders. Wenn jemand mit einer Pizza in einer schicken weißen Box auf der Straße steht und mit einer Serviette das Fett abtupft, weiß man sofort: Der ist nicht von hier.“
Wo trifft man Lady Gaga in New York? In den In-Clubs beim Feiern?
„Nein, ich mag lieber kleine, vergammelte Kneipen, in denen es Bier und Whisky gibt. In der Ecke steht eine Jukebox und es riecht dort immer ein wenig nach Pipi. Hier fühl ich mich wohl!“
Und auch wenn Lady Gaga „eine Zigeunerin mit einer Tasche voller Couture-Kleidung ist“ – New York bleibt ihre Heimat. „Wenn ich meine Eltern besuche, schlafe ich auf einer Luftmatratze.“
Draußen vor dem Loft hupen die gelben Taxis, Stimmengewirr, ein konstantes Brummen. Großstadtlärm? Nein. Für Lady Gaga ist es ein Klang-Konzert.
„Die Stadt ist mein musikalisches Wörterbuch. Das Surren der Autos, das Quietschen der U-Bahn, das Klackern meiner Highheels, wenn ich die Straße entlanglaufe – diese Klänge sind magisch.“
Und New Yorks Menschen?
„Das Tolle ist, dass hier jeder sehr respektvoll miteinander umgeht. Die New Yorker sagen nicht: Schau mal, wer da ist! Sondern: Hey, schön, dass du mal wieder zu Hause bist!“
Lady Gagas Herz schlägt für New York. Deswegen wird sie niemals den Tag vergessen, der den Herzschlag der Stadt aussetzen ließ.
„Der 11. September 2001. Ich saß gerade im Geschichtsunterricht in der Schule. Die Türme stürzten ein und der schwarze Rauch zog zu uns rüber. Der Anschlag hat eine tiefe Narbe hinterlassen. Doch: New York ist dadurch nur noch stärker geworden.“
New York – eine einzigartige Stadt. Für Besucher, für Gagas, für ALLE.
