"Fashion!" is a song by Lady Gaga from her third studio album, ARTPOP (2013). The song inspired by the gain of confidence when dressing up was written and produced by Gaga, Giorgio Tuinfort, will.i.am, and David Guetta. The song title was revealed with the track list reveal on October 9, 2013.
The song is about the love of transformation by dressing up and wearing fashion which leaves Gaga feeling “on top of the world” (confident in herself) while "lookin' good and feelin' fine".
Writing and Recording
Gaga explained the song's meaning in the track-by-track ARTPOP commentary on Sirius XM saying that this is about getting dressed up and feel like you own the world, as she describes in the lyrics. She also discussed that she wanted to do a collaboration with label mate and fashion aficionados, will.i.am for a few years now but waited for the right song to do it.

I didn't find the right song, it wasn't the right thing yet but this was the right song and the right groove, the right track. It just felt really good and we worked on it for a while together and we made it perfect and we really spent a lot of time editing it until it was just right and you know this fully is just a really fun song about being able to get dressed up and feeling like you own the world and I think sometimes people always thought that when I was getting dressed up or, you know, putting on my outfits, or during my live shows, that it was for attention, but I really feel a sense of growth and confidence in myself when I'm able to transform and that's what this is about and I think other people do too, just maybe on a smaller scale than I do. | ” |
A demo was leaked online on January 16th, 2017. It features a different instrumental but follows the same melody as the album version. Among the changes:
- A guitar intro replaces the piano intro.
- The second times that the "Lookin' good and feelin' fine" verse is repeated, before the second slay, Gaga sings "fantastique, chic, freak, slay".
- All the "Lookin' good and feelin' fine" line is sung faster.
- The word "ethereal" is repeated three times instead of only once.
Performances
The most notable performance of "Fashion!" is with RuPaul on Lady Gaga & the Muppets' Holiday Spectacular. It was based on the album version, although shortened with the "fantastique, chic, freak, slay" line being added back. The performance received reactions online particularly due to Gaga's outfit by Jean Paul Gaultier from his Haute Couture Fall 2013 collection.

During the artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball, "Fashion!" was only performed on May 4, 2014 to June 3, 2014. The song structure was changed for the performance: a longer intro using the instrumental music of the bridge was used, the lyrics started at "I take it off, I put it on" line before cutting the will.i.am part and returning to the beginning with "Fashion!/Lookin' good and feelin' fine" and ending before the "You've got company" verse. For the performance, Gaga played parts on the piano while the band recreated live the album instruments.

Trivia
- This is the second song written by Gaga with the title, "Fashion", and the fourth overall to feature the word. The others being "Fashion" (2009), "Fashion of His Love" and "Black Jesus † Amen Fashion".
- Gaga references "Marry the Night" in the line 'married to the night'.
- "Fashion!" was the only song title that wasn't mentioned prior the track list release.
- The booklet of ARTPOP erroneously listed DJ White Shadow as a writer on the track.
- Although the songs credits frequent production collaborators of David Guetta such as Giorgio Tuinfort, Daddy's Groove, and Pierre-Luc Rioux, only will.i.am was mentioned by Gaga in her track-by-track commentary.
