Eau de Gaga is the second unisex perfume by Lady Gaga, launched in 2014, through Gaga's Haus Laboratories label in association with Coty Inc. The fragrance was revealed via Twitter on August 7, 2014, with the first promotional photo by Steven Klein. Based on the region of purchase, the perfume may have included a special gift in addition. These gifts included either a special "Eau De Gaga" handbag or an exclusive promotional CD containing a duet with Tony Bennett, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love", from the album, Cheek to Cheek.

Development & Promotion

The fragrance working title was "Raw" for a possible release on or about August of 2013. The fragrance was revealed via Twitter on August 7, 2014, with the first promotional photo by Steven Klein. It was first released in September in France, Poland, Germany, U.K., Spain and other countries of Europe. Asia, Oceania, Russia, Denmark and also in some European countries had their launches in November. In the USA and Canada, Eau de Gaga landed at retail on January 15, 2015.

On September 19, 2014, a commercial video was released, showing Gaga with long blond hair and wearing a low-cut gown, atop a pile of shirtless male models while her duet with Tony Bennett, "I Can't Give You Anything but Love" plays in the background. The song choice is from her collaborative jazz album with Bennett, called Cheek to Cheek. The black-and-white video is one minute long and was shot and directed by Steven Klein.

Gaga did a Twitter Q&A to promote the perfume on September 19, 2014. Unlike Fame, Eau de Gaga had very little promotion outside of social medias. Gaga explained to fans on February 3, 2015 on Twitter that it was due to being "very focused on new music right now & training for some exciting performances. Bobby and I have lots of plans!"

Ingredients

The fragrance is built around a beautiful heart of white violet, an intoxicating flower that fuses male and female attractions. To counterbalance this opulent woody-floral intensity, the scent opens with an invigorating burst of sparkling lime that exudes dynamic vibrancy. And it evolves into a sensual trail based on leather, adding a primal quality to the scent.

The citrus-floral-leather fragrance was created in collaboration with Ursula Wandel, VP Senior Perfumer at Givaudan. It can last 14-16 hours on the skin. The style of the fragrance can be described as discreet, fresh and clean. Gaga wanted the fragrance to be a sparkling, clean and pure "Eau". The inspiration was "an earl grey tea (with a bergamot facet)". In order to be unisex, Ursula used ingredients that are ambiguous, like an ambivalent flower (hermaphrodite white violet, viola albaodorata), wood (patchouli) and sensuality (leather) wrapped with freshness (sparkling lime). Eau de Gaga contains nearly 30 natural ingredients.

Bottle

The bottle mirrors the perfume by uniting masculine and feminine design aesthetics. Its stark lines and sleek black lacquered finish deliver a bold statement in simplicity. For an added touch of luxury, the front of the flacon is adorned with a silver nameplate that is printed with the words “Paris – New York” and the number 001. The names of the two cities reflect Haus Laboratories’ global identity and the number 001 was to represents the beginning of an entire collection of Eau de Gaga fragrances. However, the fragrance division of Haus Labs closed down in July of 2015.
