"Hollywood" is a song written in 2005 by Lady Gaga, and produced by Joe Vulpis. The song was never released on any platform. The first time she performed the song was with her band (SGBand), at The Bitter End on January 20, 2006. They played the song along side "D'yer Mak'er". It was performed a second time for the Songwriters Hall of Fame Presents: The 57th New Writers Showcase, along with many other artists. The song was performed again at the Cutting Room on March 23, 2006. It is the only song from this era that's registered on BMI.
According to Joe Vulpis, he was on a ski trip to Utah when he got a phone call from Gaga telling him that she had just landed her first big record appointment with Island Def Jam.
"The 'Hollywood' creative process was pretty amazing cause I think she wrote the song relatively quick. I mean we just came in literally at like midnight after flying in from Utah. I still had my ski jacket on, my skis on my shoulders. 'All right, let's go to work!' And I think we went to work for about fourteen hours straight and we tracked the band until just about everybody passed out. And the creative process was great, we just blasted it down live take-live take-live take until we hit the magic wand. It was a lot of fun, and I don't think we ever lost, you know, we never realized what time it was. We went effortlessly, timelessly-it was a fun process, that track."
Listen, I've got the sickest ambition.
Deep in the mirror I am scared,
Don't know who the hell is there.
Yeah, I'm losing my reflection.
Obsession
The thing it's our new religion.
Each model and celebrity
Changes how I look at me.
Oh, don't tell me, don't tell me
I'll never be
A superstar 'cause I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Hollywood, Hollywood
In Hollywood, In Hollywood
Women, let's talk about our condition.
How beauty's a commodity,
Women don't get the best things,
Battered liver though, with poison.
I am the bill.
In the world without me, this vision.
Sure Hollywood's commercially amorous
But naturally, me? Quite ugly as hell.
Tell me I'm not sixteen!
Like a superstar, yeah I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Hollywood, Hollywood
Hollywood, Hollywood
Within a year I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Like a superstar, yeah I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Within the year I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Like superstars, yeah I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
In Hollywood, Hollywood
Hollywood, HollywoodLike a superstar,
Yeah I know I could.
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Within the year I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Like superstars, yeah I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
In Hollywood, Hollywood
Hollywood, Hollywood
The Cutting Room version
Listen, I've got the sickest ambition.
Deep in the mirror I am scared,
Don't know who the hell is there.
Yeah, I'm losing my reflection.
Obsession- you'd think it's our new religion.
Each model and celebrity,
Changes how I look at me.
Oh, don't tell me, a-don't tell me,
I'll never be-
A superstar 'cause I know I could,
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Hollywood, Hollywoo-hoo!
Hollywoo-hoo! Hollywoo-hoo!
Women, let's talk about our condition.
Now beauty's a commodity.
Nip and tuck your fantasy,
But you better live with your revision.
I have a vision.
It's a world without the incisions.
Sure Hollywood's commercially glamorous but
naturally's the way to be.
And you can't tell me
I'm not sexy.
Like a superstar, yeah I know I could
Look like a girl in Hollywood.
Hollywood, Hollywoo-hoo!
Hollywoo-hoo! Hollywoo-hoo!
