"Putting out this album is the most exciting moment of my life. Singing with a legend. All day, I dream and dream, I can’t believe this little Italian girl from New York made it. And all grown up."
"Just because I’m singing jazz doesnt mean I’ve left my leather behind. It keeps it heavier. The weight of it, the pain, it makes me a better artist."
"Getting ready to leave for #artRaveHerning. It's fun going in between Jazz and Pop everyday. I feel like I’m constantly rebelling against myself."
"Just me and all the girls! #CheekToCheek"
"Celebrating our #CheekToCheek rave reviews, such a beautiful time. Crack the champagne and the caviar crown. Feel very humbled and proud, pure joy from the inside out."
"You mess with my Tony, you gotta answer to me."
"Nothing else I can say, eh eh."

A Day with Lady Gaga | You Had To Be There

Transcription

[in a car]
Lady Gaga: I'm not in this for my apartment.
Sway Calloway: Yeah.
Lady Gaga: You know? The apartment is beautiful and I love being there and it's wonderful, but what I'm in this for is the connection that I share with my fans and how I can be a servant to culture. How can I serve the art world? How can I serve the fashion designers? How can I serve the actors? How can I be of service to them so that they can perform and dream and live their lives in the way that I do? That's all that I want to be.

[in Lady Gaga's apartment in NYC]
Sway Calloway: So, you wanna-- you stay in here, and I'll knock on the door, and we do it that way.
Lady Gaga: You guys are gonna change this from, like, a documentary about my artistry to 'Cribs,' right? And not tell me?
(laughs)
Sway Calloway: I didn't even think about that. This does feel like 'Cribs,' right? I didn't even think of that.
(knock on door)
Lady Gaga: Hello.
Sway Calloway: Hey.
Lady Gaga: How are you?
Sway Calloway: Gaga. What's up?
Lady Gaga: Nice to see you.
Sway Calloway: Good to see you, too. So I made it to the home.
Lady Gaga: You did, the rental.
Sway Calloway: This is the rental. Can you show me around?
Lady Gaga: Yes, I will.
Sway Calloway: This is amazing. Educate me, you know.
Lady Gaga: Well, Liza Minnelli used to live here.
Sway Calloway: Oh, that's crazy.
Lady Gaga: And Tony Bennett used to live here. Would you like some tea?
Sway Calloway: Yeah, I have to. I am not gonna pass up tea at your home.
Lady Gaga: These are from Donatella [Versace].
Sway Calloway: What flavor-- this is from Donatella?
Lady Gaga: The tea set. She gave me the coffee table and the couch and the side table with all these flowers. And then there was a big ring on the hand there. And she's just so, like--
Sway Calloway: That's amazing.
Lady Gaga: She's such a whimsical, like, lovely woman.
Producer: Should we mic her now, or--
Camera Operator: Yeah, we can mic her whenever you're ready.
Lady Gaga: This is a painting that Tony did for me.
Sway Calloway: Really, Tony Bennett?
Lady Gaga: Aha! He painted this for me for my birthday. It's Charlie Parker.
Sway Calloway: Charlie Parker, the legend. You're a big jazz fan, right?
Lady Gaga: Yeah.
Sway Calloway: And this is-- what room is this?
Lady Gaga: Well, I just keep a lot of my clothes in here, and accessories. Yeah, it's amazing to see all of the [Alexander] McQueen influences also in the younger designers and how they're so inspired by the drama. And, like, I was saying, that little twisted dark things in life--
Sway Calloway: Yeah.
Lady Gaga: Bringing things that other people don't think are beautiful, and making them beautiful, that's what makes me want to write music.
Producer: So, if I could just get a shot of the two of you - Sway, just say, like, "Should we head out to Roseland [Ballroom] now?" Just so we have.
Sway Calloway: OK.
Producer: And then we'll get the greetings in the front.
Sway Calloway: OK, great. So, you ready to head out to Roseland?
Lady Gaga: Yes.
Sway Calloway: Let's do it.
Lady Gaga: I am, I'm ready. Let's go.
Sway Calloway: Thank you for inviting me into your home.
Lady Gaga: You're very, very welcome.
[leaving Lady Gaga's apartment in NYC]
Sway Calloway: I feel like an explosion is about to happen.
Lady Gaga: It might, who knows.
Sway Calloway: All right. OK, here it comes. OK, I'll get the car for you.
(crowd cheering)
Lady Gaga: Hi, guys. How are you? Nice to see you. OK, bye.
(crowd yells)
Sway Calloway: That was nice.
Lady Gaga: Thank you. Have a lovely day.
Sway Calloway: OK, after you.
Lady Gaga: Thanks, Sway.
Sway Calloway: Absolutely.
Producer: You sit next to me, all right, great.
Lady Gaga: I think he can.
Person In Crowd: See you at 'ARTPOP' tonight.
(Lady Gaga laughs)
[in a car]
Sway Calloway: You're definitely stirring up the world. I like what you're doing. I like why you're doing it. So, I knew you back before it all happened, and it was just that dream you were dreaming. So, to see it come to fruition is really great. Being a native New Yorker, too, performing at Roseland, what does that feel like for you?
Lady Gaga: It's just a huge dream come true to be asked to close the venue out. It's saying its goodbye. It's a tall order. If you come from this town and you've played every, I've played every single venue in New York. I mean, venues that hold 15 people, that hold 30. You know, I've played a Rockwood Music Hall, you know, all the way down south of Houston, I've played The Bitter End. I've played The Cutting Room. That's where I was discovered. I played The Knitting Factory, Arlene's Grocery, The Mercury Lounge. I mean, you name it, I've done something there. You know, Roseland, I had never played Roseland, and they asked me, they said, "How come you never played here?" I said, well, because I never would have been able to fill it. I mean, it fits 3,500 people. And I went from playing for 300 people to playing for, you know, a thousand people, to playing in theaters and in arenas. So, it's, like, I kind of skipped over that size.
Sway Calloway: Yeah, you're the last performer to ever hit that Roseland stage. Someone is gonna see this performance and talk about it years from now and say, "I remember the first and the last performance, and/or the last performance I saw at Roseland. And it was Lady Gaga."
Lady Gaga: 'Cause they're saying goodbye to, you know, a place that a lot of people have spent late, late nights, experiencing music and love and New York together. It's really sad.
Sway Calloway: Yeah.
Lady Gaga: And I was really happy to come back, and it's a wonderful experience. We turned the whole place into a bar and it shows, like, being in a bar in New York.
Sway Calloway: I can't wait to see it.
Lady Gaga: Should we get out?
Sway Calloway: Yeah, let's get out.
Lady Gaga: Let's get out this way so we can say "Hi" to them.
Sway Calloway: OK.
Person In Crowd: Hi, Sway.
Sway Calloway: What's up?
Lady Gaga: Hello.
(crowd yells)
[entering Roseland Ballroom]
Lady Gaga: I love you. I have to go inside.
Sway Calloway: That was amazing. That was amazing.
Lady Gaga: OK. I'm just walking around. You can follow me.
Sway Calloway: OK, great. Can you say what you're gonna do real quick to the camera?
Lady Gaga: I'm just looking at-- they're setting up the cameras for [David] Letterman.
Sway Calloway: OK.
Lady Gaga: They're gonna come film here tonight.
Sway Calloway: Really?
Lady Gaga: Yeah, so they're gonna film two songs. "Dope" and "G.U.Y." for tonight.
Sway Calloway: OK.
Lady Gaga: Which will be great.
Sway Calloway: That's what's up.
Lady Gaga: I'm really hands-on with everything. So, I like to make sure that it's organized. I mean, Bobby [Campbell] does all of that, too, but just for good, creative flow.
Sway Calloway: Now, will you be able to show me the stage at all? From the stage?
Lady Gaga: Yeah.
Sway Calloway: OK.
Lady Gaga: Yeah, I'm gonna put on some, like, rehearsal clothes. Here we are.
Sway Calloway: Wow. You keep the keyboard in the room, right?
Lady Gaga: Oh, yeah. Just so I can practice and warm up my vocals.
Sway Calloway: So, this is the glam room right here.
Lady Gaga: Yeah, this is where I get ready. It's where all the masks and hair pieces are.
Sway Calloway: I'm surprised, looking around your room, like, I would think the Lady Gaga rider might be just so much more immaculate. You have cold cuts.
Lady Gaga: It's just, when I'm in New York, I have to have deli, like, the whole time. I'm just, like--
Sway Calloway: That's such a New Yorker thing, right?
Lady Gaga: I know.
Sway Calloway: So, we're going to rehearsal, yeah? All right, cool.
Lady Gaga: So, can you guys move up? Tim [Stewart], can you move up, like, here?
Tim Stewart: OK, yeah, definitely.
Lady Gaga: And Kern [Brantley], are you playing keys? Are you playing on that the whole time? OK.
Sway Calloway: So, what happens now? You guys about to rehearse?
Lady Gaga: Yeah, we're gonna rehearse now. You can film that, too.
Sway Calloway: We can film that?
Lady Gaga: Yeah.
Sway Calloway: OK.

Lady Gaga: Thank you.
Sway Calloway: And I'm looking forward to that 'ArtRave,' OK?
Lady Gaga: Thank you.
Sway Calloway: All right.
